This post covers Commercial Integrator’s 2026 AVoIP Deep Dive, “AVoIP Grows Up: From Adoption to Operational Maturity,” published August 5, 2026. ClearVista was one of the integration firms that contributed.
A few years ago we wrote about AV over IP vs. traditional AV and asked which one made the most sense. That debate is essentially over. The network is now the default way audio, video, and control move through conference rooms, command-and-control centers, campuses, and production spaces.
Commercial Integrator’s 2026 AVoIP Deep Dive asks the next question: once you’ve adopted AV-over-IP, what does it take to operate it well? To answer it, CI combined an audience survey with interviews with a market analyst and several integration and consulting professionals, ClearVista among them. The conclusion is that the competitive advantage has moved. It’s no longer in picking the right encoder. It’s in how the system is designed, supported, and run over time.
From “Should We?” to “How Do We Run It?”
AV-over-IP delivers flexibility, scale, and simpler cabling. Adding a display, room, or source becomes a network task instead of a rewiring job. That flexibility comes with a condition, though. Your AV system is now part of your network, so it has to be planned, secured, monitored, and maintained like any other network system.
What Operational Maturity Looks Like

Organizations getting the most from AVoIP tend to have a few things in common:
- A network designed for AV traffic. Bandwidth, multicast, QoS, and VLAN segmentation are planned from the start, not fixed after the first dropped stream.
- AV and IT at the same table. The best results come when IT is involved from design through handoff, so everyone knows who owns what on the network.
- Security built in. Every endpoint is a network device, so it needs to be patched, segmented, and managed accordingly.
- Monitoring and lifecycle planning. Remote visibility into device health, firmware management, and a clear roadmap turn AV from a series of projects into a managed service.
- Documentation and standards. Consistent room designs and thorough documentation make systems easier to support, expand, and hand off.
Questions to Ask Before Your Next AV Project
- Has our network been assessed for the AV traffic we’re planning?
- Who is responsible for the AV system once it’s installed: our IT team, our integrator, or both?
- How will we know about a problem before our users do?
- What does this system look like in three to five years, and can it grow without a rip-and-replace?
How ClearVista Approaches It
At ClearVista, we treat AV-over-IP as a long-term operating system for your spaces, not a one-time installation. We design with your IT team, build to documented standards, and support systems long after installation so they keep performing as your organization grows.
